Ole Miss Women's Basketball Team Donates To American Red Cross

Aug. 10, 2006

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Women's Basketball team recently made a donation to the North Central Mississippi chapter of the American Red Cross. The donation came from money collected throughout the 2005-06 season by the members of the team through the "Quarter Club,"

Players are charged a quarter for various slip-ups during the season, which includes missing free throws, missed defensive assignments, use of bad grammer or foul language among other things. The quarters are collected by an assistant coach after each game and at the end of the season, the money collected is then matched by head coach Carol Ross and donated to a charity of the teams choosing.

This year's charitable cause selected by the Ole Miss Women's Basketball team was easy to choose, as the money donated will be used for Hurricane Katrina relief by the North Central Mississippi chapter of the American Red Cross.

Senior forward Jada Mincy was on hand Thursday afternoon to deliver a check worth $404.50 to Lisa Harrison, the North Central Mississippi chapter's representative.
