Women's Basketball Falls To No. 4 LSU, 83-67

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Amber Watts led three Ole Miss players in double figures with 17 points, but it was not enough as LSU used a 28-9 second half run to put away the Lady Rebels, 83-67. Ke-Ke Tardy scored 19 points and Aiysha Smith had 18 as No. 4 LSU won its eighth-straight game since losing at Arkansas on Jan. 19.

Ole Miss (12-12, 1-10) fell behind early, 5-0 but closed the gap to two at 10-8 by the first media time-out behind four points from Genice Terry and two a piece from Watts and Marie Deparrois.

LSU led by as many as 10 in the first half, but could never get comfortable as the Ole Miss defense kept the Lady Rebels in the game. Ole Miss forced seven first-half Lady Tiger turnovers and held LSU to 35.7 percent shooting in the first frame.

"We did a good job defensively in the first half," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "LSU is a good team with great athletes and strong players. You are not going to hold an outstanding team like that down long."

The Lady Rebels cut the Tiger lead to four points on four occasions at the start of the second half, but never could get over the hump before surrendering the game-deciding 28-9 run midway through the period. Tardy completed the surge with five straight points. Her free throw with 10:12 left made it 63-43.

Watts finished the game with 17 points and nine rebounds, both Ole Miss highs. Terry and Deparrois each finished with 11 points. Carletta Brown had seven points and four assists and Leah Henley had six points and four assists.

The Lady Rebels made 23-of-67 shots from the field for 39.7 percent and connected on 16-of-23 foul shots.

In addition to Tardy and Smith, Doneeka Hodges scored in double figures for LSU with 10 points, while Temeka Johnson finished with nine points and Seimone Augustus and Roneeka Hodges each added eight.

The Lady Tigers were 30-of-37 from the free-throw line, including 9-of-10 by Tardy and made 25-of-60 from the field for 41.7 percent. The Lady Tigers held the rebounding edge 44-41.

Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to Starkville to take on Mississippi State. The game, which was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., will tip off at 4 p.m. in Humphrey Coliseum.
