FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Dana Cherry made a layup with 6 seconds remaining
to give No. 14 Arkansas a 62-60 win over Mississippi on Sunday.
Cherry scored 17 points for the Lady Razorbacks (18-5, 5-3), while Ruby
Vaden added 13.
Carletta Brown scored 18 points for Ole Miss, and Amber Watts added 16
points for the Lady Rebels (12-10, 2-7).
Ole Miss opened the scoring but an India Lewis 3-pointer from the top of the
key gave Arkansas the lead for most of the first half. The Lady Razorbacks led
by as many as nine points, but several trips to the free-throw line and
back-to-back 3s by Brown and Tywanna Inmon quickly closed the gap.
A pair of 3-pointers by Tia Watson gave Ole Miss a 35-29 halftime lead. The
3 by Lewis was her only bucket of the first half.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half, but Arkansas went on a
10-0 run and tied the game at 41.
Three minutes passed before either team scored. Vaden finally hit a layup at
12:13 to give Arkansas the lead, but the teams traded baskets and the score
remained tied. Brown made an easy layup midway through the second half to give
Mississippi a 47-45 lead.
Rochelle Vaughn nailed a 3 to give Arkansas a 58-55 lead with 4:18 left to
play. But free throws by Brown and Watts put the Lady Rebels up 60-58 with just
more than a minute to play.
