Ten Berge, Di Cesare Earn ESPN The Magazine COSIDA District Academic Honors

May 25, 2006

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis players Bram ten Berge and Juan Pablo Di Cesare added another honor to an already outstanding campaign this year as both earned ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA District academic honors announced Thursday. The two were among 12 student-athletes named to the District VI All-Academic, At-Large second team which covers the states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico and includes 12 different sports.

"We are very proud of Bram and Pablo," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Both are recognized as top students in their area. These guys are a great influence on the team. On road trips they study non-stop. They have worked hard and are very deserving of this honor."

ten Berge, a sophomore from the Netherlands, owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the Classics. He was named the 2006 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis. In 2005 ten Berge earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors and made the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.

Off the court, ten Berge earned All-SEC second team honors this season in helping lead the Rebels to their fifth consecutive SEC Western Division Championship and the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen." He was the clinching match in the second round against Florida State that put the Rebels in the round of 16 for the fourth time in five years.

A senior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Di Cesare holds a 3.46 GPA in Philosophy. He also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors in 2005 and is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Di Cesare was named the Allstate Insurance Student-Athlete of the Week for the Sept. 24, 2005 game against Wyoming. This spring, he received a $2,000 SEC Community Service Postgraduate Scholarship and was also named to the SEC Good Works Team.

This year's team captain, Di Cesare has been one of the leaders of the squad, earning All-SEC second team honors in helping the Rebels claim the SEC West and advance to the Final 16.
