Rebels Practice Inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium

Aug. 11, 2006

OXFORD, Miss - The Ole Miss Rebel football team continued fall practice under overcast skies inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Orgeron was pleased with the Rebel's work today, especially the progress of freshman Shay Hodge.

"We got some good work today. Shay Hodge caught some big balls out there today as a freshman."

The Rebels worked on different defensive packages today and saw two players return along the defensive line.

"We work on a lot of blitz today and the protection was good. Hayward Howard and Brandon Jenkins were back out today. They gave us some good depth on the line."

After seven days of practice Orgeron updated the progress of the Rebels.

"I think we are a lot more talented on offense, especially at quarterback, tailback and tight end position. We still have some work to do on the offensive line and at wide receiver. We are still an unknown there."

"On defense we are coming along, but we have some work to do along the front. We have to find the right combination and we haven't done that yet. At linebacker we are pretty solid with Garry (Pack), Patrick (Willis) and Quentin (Taylor). The secondary is just what we thought it would be. Jamal Harvey has really shined. He is not assignment sound, but he is one of the best athletes we recruited."

"On special teams we are making progress. Our kickers are kicking very well. Joshua Shene and Justin Sparks both have kicked very well during camp."

The Rebels hit the field tomorrow following a two-a-day practice schedule. The second practice, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, is open to the public.
